Filmmaker and Activist Maggie Hadleigh-West’s traveled 30 minutes from her home in New York City, to begin shooting “Player Hating”. She ended up in Brownsville, Brooklyn, one of the biggest housing projects in New York State. Four hours after she began her first day of filming, three kids on bikes rode through the crowd of thirty people she was shooting, stole her camera equipment, almost killed her camera man, leaving her shocked, badly frightened and changed forever.
Through the emotional story of Maggie’s film, and her friendship with hip hop artist Half-a-Mill and his Brooklyn crew, the audience will gain incite into a world they might otherwise ignore or at best stereotype. “Keeping It Real: Racism and Being a Part of the Solution” is a compelling program about privilege, racism and how facing our fears can lead each of us to open our hearts and expand our relationships and communities on a daily basis. Hadleigh-West is an Alpha Omicron Pi Alumna. |
